Tesla Sales Rebound in Norway and Sweden as New Model Y Gains Traction

According to real-time data from Norwegian Electric Vehicle Statistics, the Tesla Model Y has reclaimed the top position in new vehicle registrations this March, marking a significant turnaround from the previous months

Tesla is experiencing a resurgence in key European markets, with March registration data from Norway and Sweden indicating a strong comeback driven by the new Model Y.

This rebound follows a challenging start to 2025, during which Tesla faced significant declines in several European countries.

Tesla Model Y Leads Norway’s EV Market
Norway, often considered the global leader in electric vehicle (EV) adoption, is witnessing a revival in Tesla sales.

According to real-time data from Norwegian Electric Vehicle Statistics, the Tesla Model Y has reclaimed the top position in new vehicle registrations this March, marking a significant turnaround from the previous months.

As of mid-March, 485 units of the new Model Y have been registered, outpacing all competitors in the Norwegian market. The Model 3 has also gained traction, securing the second spot with 267 registrations so far this month.

These figures stand in stark contrast to February’s numbers, when the Model Y saw only 283 registrations and the Model 3 recorded 129. The significant month-over-month improvement highlights growing consumer interest in Tesla’s refreshed lineup.

Model Y Gains Ground in Sweden
A similar trend is emerging in Sweden, where Tesla’s Model Y has become the third most registered vehicle as of March 12, according to data from Car.info cited by CarUp.

With 318 Model Y units already registered this month, the crossover has surpassed January’s total of 299 and is quickly approaching February’s 479 registrations.

However, the Model 3 has not mirrored this success in Sweden, with only 60 units registered in March so far.

Analysts suggest that the disparity between the two models could be due to the Model Y’s local production at Gigafactory Berlin, allowing for faster deliveries and better availability. In contrast, the Model 3 is still imported, potentially leading to longer wait times and reduced sales momentum.

New Model Y Sparks Optimism
Tesla’s challenging start to 2025 saw steep declines in sales, with February registrations in Norway and Sweden dropping by over 40%. The early March turnaround, however, signals a possible resurgence as the new Model Y reaches more customers.

Industry analysts believe that Tesla’s performance in Norway is particularly crucial, as the country has one of the highest EV adoption rates worldwide.

A strong showing in this market could indicate broader consumer confidence in Tesla’s updated models. Furthermore, Tesla’s ability to regain lost ground in Sweden suggests that demand remains strong, particularly for the locally produced Model Y.

While final sales figures for March remain uncertain, the recent uptick in registrations suggests that Tesla is poised for a stronger first-quarter finish than initially expected.

If the momentum continues, Tesla could close Q1 2025 on a positive note, reversing its early-year setbacks and reasserting its dominance in the competitive European EV market.

Looking Ahead
Tesla’s resurgence in Norway and Sweden may set the stage for broader European market recovery. With increased Model Y availability and continued customer interest, Tesla’s fortunes in the region could improve in the coming months.

However, the automaker will need to maintain strong production and delivery efficiencies to sustain this momentum amid growing competition from other EV manufacturers.

As March progresses, all eyes will be on Tesla’s final Q1 figures, which will reveal whether this early-month rebound is a temporary surge or the beginning of a sustained recovery.
