At least 28 people were killed and several others injured on Saturday in an airstrike on a military school in the Libyan capital Tripoli, a ministry spokesman stated.
“An airstrike on the army school of Tripoli killed 28 cadets and injured dozens more,” Amin al-Hashemi, the representative for the health ministry of the Government of National Accord (GNA) told.
Cadets had gathered on the parade ground before proceeding to their dormitories, he added.
The military school is situated in the al-Hadba al-Khadra, a residential sector of the Libyan capital.
Blood donors were called up by the GNA health ministry to assist the injured.
The south part of Tripoli had seen intense fighting since last April when army strongman Khalifa Haftar began an invasion against the GNA.
Libya was plunged into chaos with the toppling and killing of longtime dictator Moamer Kadhafi in a 2011 NATO-backed revolution. Since then, it has become separated between the GNA and rival authorities based in the country’s east.
