WeAreOne.World, the company behind the renowned Tomorrowland festival, has reported profits of approximately €8.4 million for the fiscal year 2023, according to the festival’s annual accounts published in the Moniteur Belge.
This comes as a notable rebound following two years of cancellations due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In 2022, Tomorrowland expanded its format to three weekends, a significant change from the usual two, to accommodate a surge in demand after the hiatus.
This adaptation proved highly successful, with the festival recording a substantial profit of €18.6 million and generating €164 million in sales. The 2023 edition of Tomorrowland, however, returned to its traditional two-weekend format, yet it continued to perform robustly.
The festival drew a revenue of €129 million and netted over €8 million in profit. The financial recovery is underscored by the company’s current net assets, which stand at €30 million.
Despite this positive turn, the festival had previously faced a cumulative loss of €13.6 million across 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic’s impact.
The festival’s economic influence extends beyond just its own profitability. Over 1,200 Belgian suppliers were engaged for the 2023 event, directly creating approximately 500 jobs.
Additionally, the festival generated about 2,000 full-time positions and 15,000 temporary roles over its two weekends. This underscores Tomorrowland’s significant contribution to the local economy.
In terms of sustainability, Tomorrowland has committed to minimizing its environmental impact. The festival’s organisers highlight ongoing efforts to reduce their carbon footprint through various recycling initiatives and the adoption of green energy.
Looking ahead, the festival plans to introduce reusable cups in the next edition, reinforcing its dedication to environmental responsibility.
WeAreOne.World is not only focused on Belgium; it is expanding its global footprint with events currently held in eight countries, including Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, the Netherlands, France, Spain, and the United Arab Emirates.
There are also plans to explore the possibility of hosting Tomorrowland in Thailand, which would mark a further expansion of the festival’s international reach.
The robust financial performance and significant job creation associated with Tomorrowland reflect its resilience and growing influence in the global entertainment landscape.
As the festival continues to evolve and expand, it remains a key player in both the economic and cultural domains, setting high standards for sustainability and social responsibility within the events industry.
