President Zelenskyy warns Russia against ‘show trial’ of Ukrainian soldiers

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has warned that Russia may take the provocative action of bringing Ukrainian soldiers to justice as Kyiv celebrates 31 years of independence for the war-torn nation next week.

Zelenskyy highlighted media sources that indicated Russia was getting ready to hold a public trial on Wednesday in conjunction with the anniversary of Ukraine’s independence for fighters seized during the siege of Mariupol.

On August 24, the day of Ukraine’s independence, it will also be six months since Russia invaded the country, starting a bloody conflict that has claimed hundreds of lives.

In his evening talk on Sunday, Zelenskyy forewarned that there would be abuse if this reprehensible show trial went forward and if our people were forced into these circumstances in defiance of all accords and international laws. Beyond this point, no more negotiations will be allowed.

Public meetings are already prohibited, according to Kyiv, the capital. A curfew was also declared in Kharkiv throughout the holiday.

Zelenskyy was revisiting a topic he had already brought up in his remarks from the previous evening. He forewarned late on Saturday that “Russia could try to do something extremely revolting, particularly terrible.” One of the enemy’s main goals is to degrade us and “sow conflict, fear, and hopelessness.”

We must, however, have the strength to withstand all provocations, he continued, and “make the occupiers pay for their fear.”

He was cited as adding, “Russia is an ancient state that relates its acts to specific dates, it’s sort of an obsession.”

They “hate us and will try to expand the number of cruise missile attacks on our cities, especially Kyiv,” Podolyak continued.

Authorities in Kiev enacted a ban on public gatherings from August 22 through August 25 on Sunday.

The regional governor imposed a curfew in the city of Kharkiv in the region’s northeast from the evening of August 23 until the morning of August 25.

“We won’t permit the adversary to provoke us in any way. During our holiday celebrating our freedom, be as watchful as you can, Oleg Synegubov said on Telegram.
