Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah has etched his name into football history by becoming the first player to win the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) men’s player of the year award on three occasions.
The Egyptian forward claimed the accolade after another outstanding season in which he spearheaded Liverpool’s charge to the Premier League title.
Salah, 33, enjoyed one of the finest campaigns of his glittering career, finishing as the league’s top scorer with 29 goals while also providing 18 assists.
His consistency, leadership, and impact on decisive games were instrumental in helping Jürgen Klopp’s side reclaim the domestic crown.
“I always dreamed of being a footballer back in Egypt,” Salah said after receiving the award. “Of course, I wanted to be famous and to provide for my family, but you don’t think about the big stuff then. When you grow, you start to see things differently, you start to have ambition and you begin to see the bigger picture.”
Salah edged out a competitive shortlist that included Liverpool teammate Alexis Mac Allister, Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes, Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, Chelsea’s emerging star Cole Palmer, and Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice.
His triumph follows his recognition as both the Premier League player of the season and the Football Writers’ Association (FWA) footballer of the year earlier this summer.
Meanwhile, Aston Villa midfielder Morgan Rogers was named the PFA young player of the year. The 21-year-old impressed with his creativity, technical ability, and maturity beyond his years, establishing himself as one of the Premier League’s brightest prospects.
His award highlights Villa’s growing influence under manager Unai Emery, as the club continues to push for European qualification. In addition to the player awards, the PFA merit award was presented to Sir Gareth Southgate, who stepped down as England manager earlier this year.
Southgate, widely praised for revitalizing the national side and guiding them to a European Championship final and a World Cup semi-final, was recognized for his lasting contribution to English football both on and off the pitch.
Southgate’s leadership transformed England into genuine contenders on the global stage while fostering a culture of togetherness and professionalism that has inspired a new generation of players.
Salah’s record-breaking achievement further solidifies his status as one of the Premier League’s greatest-ever forwards.
Since joining Liverpool in 2017, he has become the club’s all-time top scorer in the competition and has consistently delivered on the biggest stage. His latest honor reflects not only his individual brilliance but also his role in Liverpool’s collective success.
With his third PFA title, Salah now surpasses the likes of Thierry Henry and Cristiano Ronaldo, both of whom won the award twice, cementing his legacy among the true legends of English football.
