Estonian Duo Triumphs Over Norway, Sets Sights on Gold Showdown with Sweden

Kaldvee expressed elation over their semi-final win, stating they're "really happy" with the result. She affirmed they'll give their all against Sweden to secure the best outcome for Estonia

In a gripping showdown at the World Curling Championships in Östersund, Sweden, the Estonian duo of Marie Kaldvee and Harri Lill emerged victorious in the semi-final clash against Norway.

Their hard-fought battle culminated in an 8-6 win, propelling them into the championship final where they will lock horns with hosts Sweden on Saturday.

Reflecting on their remarkable journey to the final, Kaldvee expressed elation over their semi-final triumph. “We’re very happy with our result, really happy with the semi-final win, and we’ll definitely go all out [on Saturday] against Sweden to give Estonia the best possible result,” she remarked, exuding confidence ahead of the ultimate showdown.

Lill echoed her sentiments, emphasizing the team’s resilience and determination throughout the tournament. “I’m very proud of the team’s achievement so far,” he affirmed. “During the group stage, it looked like maybe we wouldn’t get out of the group, but it’s been a great fight, and we’re going to give it our all.”

Their path to the final was not devoid of challenges. Both last year and in 2019, the Estonian pair narrowly missed out on podium finishes, securing the fifth position at the World Championships.

However, undeterred by past setbacks, Kaldvee and Lill showcased their prowess and tenacity, surmounting obstacles to secure a shot at gold this year.

Their opponents in the final, Sweden’s Isabella and Rasmus Wrana, pose a formidable challenge. The Wrana duo exhibited their mettle in the semi-finals, clinching a 6-3 victory over Switzerland.

Rasmus Wrana, a seasoned Olympian, clinched the gold medal with Sweden at the 2022 Beijing Olympics, while Isabella Wrana boasts the European Mixed Doubles Championship title from 2014.

The stage is set for a thrilling showdown as Estonia and Sweden vie for curling supremacy. With both teams brimming with talent and determination, spectators can expect an enthralling contest as they battle for the coveted gold medal.

The final showdown is scheduled to commence on Saturday at 3 p.m. Estonian time, promising an afternoon of gripping curling action.

As anticipation mounts and excitement fills the air, all eyes will be on the ice as Kaldvee and Lill, fueled by their semi-final triumph, embark on their quest to etch their names in curling history.
