Netherlands Tops Europe’s Mobile Network Experience Rankings in MedUX 2026 Report

A continent-wide study of 33 countries shows the Netherlands leading for mobile Quality of Experience, with Denmark, Norway and Switzerland close behind, as widespread 5G deployment boosts reliability, streaming, gaming and data performance for hundreds of millions of European users

A new continent-wide telecoms benchmark has placed Netherlands at the top of Europe’s mobile network experience rankings, highlighting the country’s dominance in reliability, speed and overall customer satisfaction as 5G infrastructure matures across the region.

The annual study by MedUX, which measures Quality of Experience (QoE), awarded the Netherlands an overall score of 4.51 out of 5. The result positions the country ahead of its closest Nordic competitors and underscores the widening gap between Europe’s most advanced digital markets and those still expanding coverage.

QoE reflects how users actually perceive mobile services in daily life, rather than simply laboratory speed tests. It combines indicators such as streaming smoothness, app responsiveness, reliability and value for delivered speeds, offering a broader measure of network quality.

Trailing just behind the Netherlands were Denmark with 4.43 and Norway with 4.39. Switzerland rounded out the top tier at 4.34, creating a northern European podium dominated by high 5G penetration and mature telecom infrastructure.

The research, conducted during the fourth quarter of 2025, covered more than 33 countries and a population base of roughly 656 million people. Analysts drew on over 180 million performance tests and 39 billion radio samples captured directly from real users’ devices, providing an independent, field-based snapshot of performance.

The Netherlands excelled across several key categories, winning awards for Best Overall Experience, Best Reliability, Best Data and OTT Experience, and Best Value for Speed. Its reliability rate reached 91.1 percent, indicating minimal call drops or service interruptions.

Data and over-the-top services such as messaging, video conferencing and streaming apps also performed strongly, scoring 91.3 percent. Researchers noted that consistent download and upload speeds allowed users to handle cloud storage, file transfers and real-time communication with fewer slowdowns.

Denmark posted particularly strong results in data-heavy tasks. The country achieved an 89 percent score in the data and OTT category and 88.9 percent for value for speed, while also ranking first in social media performance, where responsiveness and low delays are crucial for users.

Norway, meanwhile, distinguished itself in video delivery. It claimed the Streaming Award with a score of 88.1 percent, supported by higher 4K playback rates and minimal buffering. Analysts said the result reflects investment in both coverage and backhaul capacity to handle growing video demand.

Switzerland shared top honors for network responsiveness and gaming, tying with Luxembourg for low-latency performance. These metrics are increasingly important as mobile gaming, augmented reality and cloud-based applications require near-instant response times.

Beyond the podium, other northern markets such as Sweden and Finland continued to perform well, reflecting broad 5G deployment and early spectrum investment. In the Netherlands and Denmark, about 87 percent of mobile usage already runs on 5G networks.

Across the Nordics and Switzerland, usage exceeds 80 percent, demonstrating how quickly consumers migrate when coverage and device compatibility improve. In many of these countries, 5G now carries the majority of mobile traffic, with 4G operating primarily as a fallback layer.

In contrast, parts of southern and eastern Europe still show uneven availability. While coverage is expanding, inconsistent rollouts and infrastructure costs have slowed progress, creating a noticeable divide between leaders and laggards.

“This report showcases European excellence in mobile connectivity,” said Jaime González, chief marketing officer at MedUX. He added that focusing on quality as well as coverage would be key to unlocking the full potential of next-generation networks.

MedUX said it plans to expand its benchmarking through a new Connectivity Observatory that will track performance trends over time and allow regulators and operators to compare progress more transparently.

For consumers, the findings suggest that high-quality mobile experiences are no longer aspirational. In several European markets, seamless streaming, fast downloads and reliable connections are already becoming the everyday standard.
