Russian air strikes target Kyiv for third consecutive night

After Russia attacked Ukraine’s capital for the third night in a row, explosions were heard in Kyiv and several buildings were set on fire.

The fires were caused by dropping debris, according to officials, and Ukraine’s air defences stopped more than 20 drones. At least one person has been said to have died.

The mayor of Russia’s capital city, Moscow, said that a drone attack did minor damage to a few buildings in the city.

Sergei Sobyanin said that “all the city’s emergency services” were at the scene.

He also said, “So far, no one has been hurt badly.”

After another night of drone strikes on the Ukrainian city, the attacks on Moscow happened.

Kyiv’s military administration said that, based on what they knew so far, more than 20 kamikaze drones were destroyed in the latest attack.

It said that an apartment block fire in the southern Holosiivskyi area killed one person and hurt three others.

“Two upper floors are destroyed, and there may be people under the rubble,” the government said in a statement.

In the Darnytskyi area, which is just across the Dnipro river, two private buildings caught fire and several cars were damaged.

Vitaliy Klitschko, the mayor of Kyiv, called the new attack “massive” and told people “not to leave shelters.”

After three hours, the air raid warning was turned off, which meant that the Russian air attack was over for now.

It was the 17th attack on the city since the beginning of May. One of the attacks happened during the day, which doesn’t happen very often.

President Volodymyr Zelensky has said good things about the Patriot air shields made in the US and given to Ukraine.

In a video speech late Monday night, he said that they had made sure that “any Russian missiles” would be shot down.

“Russia wants to follow the road of evil all the way to the end, which means until it loses, because evil can’t end in anything else. “The world must see that terror is losing,” Mr. Zelensky said.

Gen. Kyrylo Budanov, who is in charge of military intelligence in Ukraine, said that the country would act quickly in response to the Russian attacks.

Some targets, including what looks like an air base, have been hit by Russia’s forces in other parts of Ukraine.

On Monday, officials in the western Khmelnytskyi area said that five military planes had been damaged. The officials said that the runway was now being fixed, but they didn’t give any more information.

During its recent attacks on Kyiv and other towns in Ukraine, Russia’s military said that all of its targets were hit.

The claims made by both sides have not been checked by a third party.

Russia’s full-scale attack began in February 2022, and it has been using kamikaze drones and a variety of cruise and ballistic missiles.

Analysts say that Moscow wants to weaken and hurt Ukraine’s air defences before its long-awaited counterattack.
