After being admitted for one night in a hospital, the Queen Elizabeth II is now back in Windsor Castle. The statement added that she was admitted for some regular tests and is doing fine.
The British Inland Press Association news agency said the trip to the hospital was held under wraps because it was supposed to be a short stay and also to protect the privacy of the 95-year-old monarch.
The overnight stay was for “practical reasons”, the statement by Bunkingam Palace added
The Sun had said it had been decided she should stay at the private King Edward VII hospital in central London as it was too late to make the 26-mile (42-kilometre) journey back to Windsor.
She was previously treated at the exclusive clinic known for treating the royal family, including in 2013 for gastroenteritis, as she also stayed one night.
In 2003, surgeons at the hospital removed small non-cancerous growths from her face and operated on her knee, while in 1982, a wisdom tooth was extracted.
The Queen’s late husband, Prince Philip, spent four weeks in February this year undergoing treatment for a pre-existing heart condition. He passed away in April, just a few weeks before his 100th birthday.
The head of state, who has been on the throne since 1952 and is the longest-serving monarch of Britain, was said to have been at her desk on Thursday afternoon to carry out light duties.
She was scheduled to attend an ecumenical service in the border town of Armagh on Thursday for the 100th.
But the palace said on Wednesday morning that it had “withdrawn medical advice to rest for the next few days”.
The decision was not linked to the coronavirus, and she was told she would rest in Windsor.
Busy schedule
The Queen, who still drives around and drives on her private property, has had a busy schedule since returning from her remote Balmoral property in the north-east of Scotland in early October.
But the news that she had an overnight stay in the hospital will inevitably raise fears for her health, following her advanced age, and questions about whether she should continue to slow down.
