French Centrist party included in EU Parliament funds investigation

It’s a part of a broader investigation into allegations that MEPs used cash meant to compensate parliamentary assistants to pay the salaries of individuals who were really doing work for the political party.

That same scandal affected former MEP Sylvie Goulard’s bid to become European commissioner last month. During her confirmation hearings within the European Parliament, Goulard denied allegations she used the assistant for domestic political work once she served as a modem MEP. However, Parliament’s internal market and trade committees ultimately rejected her candidature.

Nardella was the primary official to be listed by the judges hearing the case of the domestic investigation, that began in July 2017.

Bayrou is going to be questioned Dec six, with Goulard and former MEP Marielle DE Sarnez additionally slated to be presented before court next month.
