The Cannes Film Festival commenced on Tuesday after its deferment in May because of COVID-19. Its 73rd version will be a smaller one, given the tight lockdown limitations as of now authorized across France.
It will occur outside and will mostly be for three days, with just four movies being screened.
With numerous functions dropped because of the pandemic, the current year’s version “feels like a battle” for the benefit of the whole area, Exberliner Magazine supervisor David Mourikund told .
“Cannes has suffered badly because of the COVID emergency,” he stated, a sit made the city lose around €940 million.
“It seems like a festival which is done in a feeling of resistance, to show that the entertainment world isn’t dead in spite of having been adversely affected. Be that as it may, with everything taken into account, it’s to a greater extent an emblematic function than it is a typical film celebration”.
According to Mourikund, the highlights of the festival will be “Beginning”, directed by Dea Kulumbegashvili — already “best film” at the San Sebastián International Film Festival — and the comedy “Les 2 Alfred” by Bruno Podalydès.
