Swiss voters reject proposal to end EU freedom of movement by nearly 62%

Swiss electors dismissed an activity that would have kept EU residents from having the option to unreservedly work and live in the nation. 

The Swiss government said the activity had fizzled with 61.71% democratic against it in Sunday’s choice. 

The activity, brought by the extreme right Swiss People’s Party, tried to restrict migration after a 2014 choice to bring standards back was downsized by the Swiss parliament. 

Almost 25% of Switzerland – 2.1 million individuals – are outsiders, of which the lion’s share (1.4 million individuals) originate from the European Union and the United Kingdom. In the interim, around 460,000 Swiss residents live in EU nations.

European Council President Charles Michel said it was an “incredible day” for EU-Swiss relations.

Addressing Euronews, Swiss elector Frédéric Martin stated: “I truly think we must be liberal and to acknowledge that individuals from abroad are at any rate as important as us and can accomplish great work in our nation and improve the economy.” 

Martin, who lives in the canton of Valais, intended to cast a ballot no on the activity except for said that he knew numerous individuals who wanted to cast a ballot yes.
