Results of Spain’s Christmas lottery was announced on Sunday, fortunate holders of ticket number 26,590, which boxed the highest prize, worth €400,000. The jackpot fell out of a substantial metallic shuffling bin during a live televised event on Sunday morning.
For each euro spent on their 20-euro ticket, the winners picked up €20,000. This year, the incredibly popular Spanish lottery, referred to as El Gordo or “The Fat One”, handed out a complete of €2.24 billion in prizes, with many smaller rewards additionally to the highest award.
El Gordo, held annually on December 22, is ranked because the world’s most productive for the entire prize involved, albeit other lotteries have bigger individual top prizes.
The prizes were called out on a nationally televised drawn by children from Madrid’s San Ildefonso School at Madrid’s Teatro Real opera. A winter holiday tradition in Spain is to shop for tickets among families, friends and associates. The lottery is travelled by the state and supports several charity efforts.
