Russian forces have breached the eastern Ukrainian city of Pokrovsk in Donetsk Oblast, according to multiple Ukrainian military sources and war monitoring platforms.
Infiltrating through weakened defenses, Russian sabotage and reconnaissance groups have entered the city, prompting intense street-level clashes and a large-scale mop-up operation by Ukrainian forces.
Ukrainian soldiers stationed in Pokrovsk confirmed that the first signs of infiltration emerged around July 17, with small Russian units moving covertly through the Zvirove area.
The Deep State military analysis project reported by July 21 that the situation had escalated into an “active mop-up” operation as Ukrainian forces worked to eliminate enemy presence.
The Russian units reportedly exploited gaps in the Ukrainian front line, taking advantage of confusion on the ground to gain entry. The 155th Separate Mechanised Brigade and the 68th Jaeger Brigade were quickly deployed to contain the breach.
These units have been central to Ukraine’s ongoing efforts to repel the intruders and prevent a wider breakthrough. A key battleground appears to be Defenders of Ukraine Street, where Russian forces are attempting to establish control.
Deep State analysts noted that the area has become a hotspot for urban combat, with Ukrainian forces still working to flush out remaining enemy units.
The chaotic nature of fighting in Pokrovsk has led to casualties among Ukrainian troops and an increase in friendly fire incidents. Deep State emphasized the need for disciplined and precise coordination in such complex, high-stakes environments.
Social media footage circulating since July 21 has confirmed the presence of Russian fighters within residential zones. In one video, Russian troops are seen ambushing Ukrainian soldiers at the intersection of Shevchenko and Defenders of Ukraine streets—visually verifying the urban threat.
Commander-in-Chief of Ukraine’s Armed Forces, Oleksandr Syrskyi, announced that Ukrainian forces had struck one Russian group attempting to push further into the city. However, he did not confirm if all threats had been neutralized.
A Ukrainian serviceman known by the call sign “Alex” posted on social media that Russian units have intensified their presence in the city’s southern districts, targeting Ukrainian military vehicles and infrastructure. He warned that the attacks may be a prelude to a larger offensive to capture Pokrovsk.
Pro-Russian Telegram channels also released video purportedly showing a Russian sabotage group firing on a Ukrainian Armed Forces vehicle, suggesting that these incidents are not isolated but part of a broader infiltration strategy.
The situation in Pokrovsk remains fluid, with ongoing combat and rising tensions underscoring the persistent volatility in Donetsk Oblast. Ukrainian forces are now working urgently to re-establish security and assess the strategic implications of the Russian incursion.
