In an effort to expand its presence and enhance accessibility for customers, McDonald’s has announced a new collaboration with Certas Energy Norway AS, the owner of the Esso chain in Norway.
The partnership will see McDonald’s restaurants opening at select Esso service stations along Norway’s road network over the coming years, with a minimum of seven locations expected to be established.
The collaboration is designed to meet McDonald’s growth ambitions in Norway, according to Ann Helen Våge, Managing Director of McDonald’s Norway.
The fast-food giant plans to tap into the convenience of roadside locations, offering travelers and locals a convenient stop for a meal while also allowing them to charge their vehicles.
“We aim to grow and enhance our accessibility across Norway. Roadside locations are highly attractive to our guests, and this collaboration allows us to offer both local customers and travelers a convenient stop where they can enjoy a meal and charge their vehicles at the same location,” said Våge.
The initiative is expected to benefit not only McDonald’s and Esso but also the broader Norwegian community, providing new employment opportunities and supporting the company’s continued growth in the country.
McDonald’s has long been one of Norway’s largest employers of young people, with approximately 70% of its workforce under the age of 24.
“This collaboration with Esso will further contribute to that growth. At McDonald’s, we are passionate about giving young people opportunities, prioritizing motivation over prior work experience. We are proud to be an attractive employer and a stepping stone for many young people starting their careers in Norway,” Våge added.
In recent years, McDonald’s has placed a significant focus on supporting youth employment, helping young people enter the workforce and gain valuable experience.
This initiative is expected to further strengthen McDonald’s position as an employer of choice in Norway, offering a wide range of job opportunities across the country.
The partnership between McDonald’s and Esso marks a significant step in the fast-food chain’s strategy to increase its reach and visibility along Norway’s major travel routes.
With travelers seeking more convenient stops during long road trips, the collaboration aims to combine food services with the growing demand for charging stations for electric vehicles, providing a one-stop solution for customers.
The two companies have not yet revealed the exact locations of the first McDonald’s restaurants set to open at Esso service stations, but the collaboration is expected to increase the number of McDonald’s outlets in the country, making it easier for customers to access the brand in a variety of locations.
As Norway continues to embrace sustainability and invest in infrastructure to support electric vehicles, this partnership could also be seen as an effort to align McDonald’s with the country’s environmental goals.
The integration of charging stations at service areas is expected to meet the evolving needs of travelers, offering a combination of quick meals and eco-friendly services.
This collaboration between McDonald’s and Esso is a promising step in the continued expansion of both companies in Norway, as they work together to provide greater convenience, employment opportunities, and a modernized experience for both locals and visitors to the country.
