Five-time Grand Slam champion Maria Sharapova is “bidding farewell” to tennis at 32 years old.
In an article composed for Vogue and Vanity Fair, Sharapova said her body “had become an interruption” after a battle with shoulder wounds.
The Russian won her first Grand Slam at Wimbledon in 2004 matured 17 and finished the profession pummel – every one of the four notable titles – by winning the French Open in 2012.
In 2016, she served a 15-month boycott in the wake of testing positive for meldonium.
After coming back from her boycott in 2017, Sharapova battled to recover her best structure and experienced various wounds.
She has dropped to 373 on the planet, her most reduced positioning since August 2002, and has lost in the first round of her previous three Grand Slam competitions.
In reporting her retirement, she stated: “I’m new to this, so please excuse me. Tennis – I’m bidding farewell.
“Thinking back now, I understand that tennis has been my mountain. My way has been loaded up with valleys and temporary re-routes, however, the perspectives from its pinnacle were unbelievable.
