Kyle Walker has made the move from Manchester City to AC Milan on loan for the remainder of the season, marking the end of his successful tenure at the Premier League club.
The England international defender completed his medical with the seven-time European Cup winners on Thursday, confirming the transfer.
Walker, who has been a cornerstone of City’s defense since joining from Tottenham Hotspur in 2017, will wear the number 32 shirt at Milan.
His deal includes an option for the Italian club to purchase him outright at the end of the season. This could see the 34-year-old remain in Serie A beyond this campaign, depending on his performance and Milan’s future plans.
The move sees Walker join a growing contingent of English talent at the San Siro, including defender Fikayo Tomori, midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek, and forward Tammy Abraham.
His addition further strengthens Milan’s squad as they look to make their mark on both domestic and European competitions.
Walker’s departure from Manchester City comes after an illustrious period at the club, where he won six Premier League titles, multiple domestic cups, and the coveted UEFA Champions League.
His move to Milan is a bittersweet one, and the veteran defender took to social media to express his gratitude to the club and its supporters.
In an emotional Instagram post, Walker thanked his teammates, coaching staff, and the backroom staff for making his time at City memorable.
“A huge thank you to so many people, the coaching staff, the kit men, and all the backroom staff who work tirelessly behind the scenes,” Walker wrote. “You make every day enjoyable and provide the platform for us to perform at our best.”
Walker went on to thank his teammates, acknowledging the close bond he had with the squad. “From the moment I walked through the door I felt at home,” he continued.
“Thank you for the great memories and for all the success we have shared together. You are friends, but also family for life.”
The England international also shared his appreciation for manager Pep Guardiola, who played a pivotal role in bringing him to the club in 2017.
“To Pep Guardiola, thank you for believing in me and working so hard to bring me here in 2017. Together, we’ve celebrated 17 trophies, and your guidance has helped shape me into the player I am today. I’ll be forever grateful.”
As Walker begins a new chapter at AC Milan, his legacy at Manchester City remains firmly intact. His solid performances on the right side of defense and his leadership on the pitch were integral to City’s domestic dominance under Guardiola.
Walker’s debut for AC Milan could come as early as this Sunday when the club faces Parma in Serie A, a match that could see the experienced defender make an immediate impact on his new team.
