Khephren Thuram scored twice for Juventus, but it wasn’t enough to secure a win as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Fiorentina in Serie A.
The French midfielder, son of 1998 World Cup winner Lilian Thuram and brother of Marcus, opened the scoring in the 20th minute before adding a second after the break. However, despite his heroics, Fiorentina salvaged a point thanks to Riccardo Sottil’s late strike.
Thuram, who was making waves with his performances for Juventus, slotted home his first goal for the club in the first half. A well-timed run and a composed finish into the bottom corner gave the home side an early advantage.
The goal was a testament to the 23-year-old’s burgeoning talent, as he continues to make a name for himself at the Allianz Stadium.
However, Fiorentina were quick to respond. Just before the break, former Juventus forward Moise Kean equalized with a header from close range, taking his tally to 11 league goals for the season. Kean’s effort silenced the home crowd and ensured the game would remain evenly poised heading into the second half.
The second half saw Thuram once again find the back of the net. The Frenchman was in the right place at the right time to restore Juventus’ lead, capitalizing on a rebound to smash the ball past Fiorentina goalkeeper Pietro Terracciano.
His second goal was a display of sharp instincts and clinical finishing, giving Juventus a 2-1 advantage.
However, Juventus could not hold on to their lead. With just three minutes remaining in regulation, Riccardo Sottil unleashed a powerful left-footed volley that flew into the roof of the net, leaving Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny with no chance.
The stunning strike from Sottil ensured Fiorentina would leave Turin with a hard-earned point.
The draw means Juventus, under manager Thiago Motta, extended their unbeaten run to 26 matches across all competitions, though they remain in sixth place in the Serie A standings, level on points with Fiorentina.
The draw also highlighted Juventus’ ongoing struggles with consistency this season, having drawn 11 of their 18 matches so far.
For Juventus, the frustration of letting a lead slip away continues, as they now sit nine points behind Serie A leaders Atalanta.
With the race for the top four still wide open, Juventus will need to find a way to convert more of their draws into wins if they are to challenge for the title.
Fiorentina, on the other hand, will feel pleased with their resilience, securing an important point that keeps them in contention for European football next season.
Both sides will now turn their attention to upcoming fixtures, hoping to build on this hard-fought draw as the Serie A season reaches its halfway point.
