Islamic State West Africa Province takes the responsibility attack on Burkina Faso military base

An Islamic State group has taken the responsibility of blast that took place in Burkina Faso on Tuesday. Seven soldiers were martyred while many were injured in this deadly and horrific incident.

Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) issued a statement announcing that one member from their group drove into the base in Northern Soum province and set off a bomb in the car that exploded, leaving seven soldiers dead and many injured.

The terrorist group, which is a separatist wing of the Nigerian jihadist group Boko Haram, did not claim the responsibility of the tragic attack in the city of Arbinda that killed 35 civilians, including 31 women who went out to collect water for their families.

President Roch Marc Christian Kabore had cancelled all the Christmas celebrations and announced 48 hours of national mourning following these terrorist attacks.

A security source stated that the raid was conducted by large number of Jihadists on motorbikes and persisted for several hours before they drove the militants back. After some hours, well-armed forces in Soum backed by the air force repulsed the militants and captured weapons and motorbikes in large numbers, the army said in a statement.

“A large group of terrorists concurrently attacked the military base and the civilian population in Arbinda,” the army chief of staff said in a statement.
