France launches terror probe after policewoman stabbed to death

French authorities began a terror probe on Friday after a female police officer was stabbed to death near Paris.

The attack happened at a police station in Rambouillet, some 60 kilometres southwest of the French capital, as the officer, 49, was returning from lunch. She crumbled on the spot.

Police sources have told that the strange 36-year-old man of Tunisian origin known as Jamel G., was shot by various officer and died. He was not known to police officers or data services

The National Anti-Terrorist Prosecutor’s Office (PNAT) has launched an inquiry into the management of the “death of a public official in relation to a terrorist undertaking and revolutionary conspiracy.”

The National Anti-Terrorist Prosecutor Jean-François Ricard stated that investigation was encouraged by the modus operandi including the location, the profile of the victim “but also the comments made by the author during the understanding of facts”.

According to witnesses, the suspect shouted “Allah Akbar”

Police had raided at least two homes by Friday evening, including the suspect’s homes and that of a person who greeted him in when he first arrived in France in 2009.

President Emmanuel Macron named the victim as “Stephanie” and writes that “the Nation stands with her family, partners, and defence forces.”
“In the fight that is against Islamist terrorism, we will not give up,” he added.

The victim had two daughters, aged 18 and 13. Both Prime Minister Jean Castex and Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin visited the police station “to evaluate the state” with local administration, the ministry said in a statement.

“They will lend their assistance to the victim’s co-workers and through them to the entire state police force” which were “once over targeted”, the statement said.

Castex paid fee to the officer on Twitter, writing: “The Republic has just lost one of its everyday heroines, in a wild and very cowardly act.”
