Experience Northern Lights in Comfort with Custom Chairs in Bodø, Norway

As the peak season for the northern lights begins, travelers are invited to visit Norway for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness The Greatest Light Show on Earth.

To enhance this magical experience, a local product designer from Bodø has created specially designed viewing chairs, offering a comfortable way to enjoy the mesmerizing aurora borealis.

Sander Kommedahl, a product designer from the town of Bodø in northern Norway, has crafted a unique set of chairs that allow visitors to fully appreciate the beauty of the northern lights.

“These seats are designed so that more people can experience the northern lights just as I have all my life. Now is the time to see this wonder for yourself,” says Kommedahl.

His innovative chairs are situated on Ausvika beach, just a 10-minute drive from Bodø, and are open to the public, welcoming anyone eager to witness the spectacle of the aurora.

Kommedahl’s motivation behind the project stems from his desire to share the magic of the northern lights with others.

“I wanted to create something that not only showcases the beauty of the northern lights but also reflects the warmth and hospitality of our region. These seats are designed to be inviting, and offer the comfort of sitting back, relaxing, and enjoying the best view of the Aurora,” he adds.

The seats offer a cozy and inviting spot to take in the spectacular display, which is expected to be more vibrant than ever this year.

Northern Norway’s pristine dark skies and limited light pollution provide ideal conditions for witnessing the aurora, making it a top destination for travelers hoping to catch this breathtaking phenomenon.

The timing could not be better for those planning a trip to Norway, as the aurora borealis enters its peak phase due to the sun’s 11-year solar cycle.

Solar physicist Pål Brekke, Head of Space Research at the Norwegian Space Agency, explains that the solar activity will lead to more frequent and vivid northern lights displays.

“The activity of the sun controls the activity of the northern lights. Right now, the sun is approaching a new solar maximum – when there is more activity than usual,” says Brekke.

For those eager to maximize their northern lights experience, a few simple tips can help ensure a successful outing. The season for observing the aurora spans from late September to late March, with the best chances falling between October and February.

To catch the show, travelers should check weather forecasts for clear skies and choose nights with minimal cloud cover.

It’s also important to seek out remote areas, at least 150 meters away from artificial light sources, and to look northward, as that’s where the aurora is most visible.

Additionally, dressing warmly is essential for staying comfortable while waiting for the aurora to appear, as the viewing experience can take time.

Visitors are also encouraged to bring a camera with strong low-light capabilities to capture the incredible display of colors as the lights dance across the night sky.

With Kommedahl’s specially designed seats and the peak solar activity, now is the perfect time to plan a northern lights adventure.

Whether you’re sitting back in comfort on Ausvika beach or venturing out into the surrounding wilderness, the northern lights are waiting to dazzle you.
