Chief of French pension reform, Jean-Paul Delevoye resigns

France is facing nationwide protests over the newly announced pension schemes. The government official, Jean-Paul Delevoye who proposed this pension plan that has resulted in strikes across the country, has resigned from his designation on Monday.

The resignation comes over his failure to declare the sources of his outside income.

As per Elysee, the High Commissioner for Pensions chose to leave on his own initiatives.

Compulsion began to increase after it was recorded that Delevoye, 72, was unable to confess 13 paid or missionary activities on his statement of interest filed two months after he joined the government.

Article 23 of the French Constitution prohibits government officials from involving in other paid activities.

Among these were managerial functions for the Parallaxe thinktank for which he was given more than €5,000 for a period of one month also for the French Federation of Insurers the philanthropic arm of the railway operator, SNCF.

According to the AFP news agency, these different activities paid him at least €123,000 since he was tasked by President Emmanuel Macron of devising the pension reform in September 2017. Delevoye had said he would reimburse the sum.
