Bulgaria’s Tourism Ministry and Winter Resorts collaborate for a revitalized Winter Season

Sofia, Bulgaria: To foster modernization and enhance competitiveness in Bulgaria’s winter tourism sector, the Ministry of Tourism, in collaboration with major winter resorts, is set to implement significant changes ahead of the 2023-2024 winter season.

This initiative follows a comprehensive meeting between Tourism Minister Zaritsa Dinkova and key industry stakeholders, including representatives from prominent ski resorts such as Bansko, Pamporovo, Vitosha, and Rila.

The proposed changes aim to address persistent challenges that have impacted the resorts over the past decade, hindering Bulgaria’s optimal positioning in the global tourism market.

Infrastructure improvement and renewal, alongside enhanced road signage directing visitors to the resorts, are among the vital focal points of the impending reforms.

Preliminary data indicates that tourists from Romania, Greece, Turkey, North Macedonia, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Italy are expected to grace Bulgaria’s winter resorts during the upcoming season.

A proactive winter tourism advertising campaign was launched in October to bolster tourism numbers, targeting crucial international markets and the domestic audience.

The Ministry of Tourism is also exploring opportunities to extend Bulgaria’s appeal beyond the traditional winter season by promoting specialized forms of tourism that can be enjoyed throughout the year.

This strategic approach seeks to capitalize on Bulgaria’s diverse offerings when skiing and winter sports are not feasible.

Minister Dinkova emphasized the importance of collective efforts to ensure a seamless winter season, expressing support for the tourism industry’s endeavours to establish Bulgaria as a safe destination.

She stressed the ministry’s commitment to building Bulgaria’s reputation as a secure, high-quality, and hospitable tourist destination, envisioning the country as a recognized “trademark” for these attributes.

Several initiatives will be implemented to position and promote Brand Bulgaria to boost Bulgaria’s winter tourism.

Notably, the Tourism Ministry will support the Snowboarding World Cup in Pamporovo, scheduled for January and the Alpine Skiing World Cup in Bansko, set for February.

These sporting events are envisioned as potent marketing tools to elevate Bulgaria’s winter tourism profile and contribute to the country’s overall branding.

In addition to these events, Bulgaria plans to showcase its tourism offerings on the international stage through participation in various exhibitions.

The itinerary includes stops in Spain, Germany, the United Kingdom, Portugal, France, and other countries, providing a platform to showcase Bulgaria’s diverse attractions and foster partnerships with international stakeholders.
