The outskirt between the states Victoria and New South Wales will be shut from noon on Tuesday, authorities from the two countries said.
The move comes as Melbourne, Victoria’s capital, declared a flood of 127 new cases on Monday.
Victoria’s Premier Daniel Andrews said the choice to cut off the state was “the brilliant call, the correct call as of now, given the noteworthy difficulties we face in containing this infection”.
Australia has recorded in excess of 8,500 instances of COVID-19 and 105 deaths from the infection.
